Safety
Safety
Safety at United Civil isn’t just a program, it’s an unwavering commitment.
Our goal is to create an environment free of hazards for employees, clients, and the public at large. We believe that we are all personally accountable for the safety of the person next to us, and we ensure that every crew member is empowered to make safe decisions.
Safety365 is a philosophy that extends beyond the jobsite to encompass all aspects of work and life. Our mission is straightforward: get every team member home safely, every day.
From first estimate to final punch list, safety is engrained in every aspect of our work.
Before we win the job, our estimating team accounts for all safety-related costs upfront so there’s never pressure on a project team to cut corners for the sake of schedule or budget.
Before work begins, every project goes through a structured handoff process that includes safety leadership, operations, project management, and field supervision to ensure informed alignment on approach, hazards, and controls before a shovel hits the ground.
Every morning on every site, our crews conduct a Jobsite Hazard Analysis (JHA) and daily tailboard meeting. Field leadership walks through the specific hazards of the day based on the tasks at hand.
Throughout the project, a dedicated United Civil safety professional is assigned to each jobsite, performing ongoing audits, supporting orientations, and ensuring safe work plans are developed and followed in real time.
Our Safety Team
United Civil employs 10 full-time safety professionals led by Evan Haskins, Director of Safety. Our team possesses an excellent blend of practical field experience and technical expertise – all team members are college-educated and fully credentialed, with CSP’s, CUSP’s, CHST’s, M.S., and other advanced safety credentials on staff.
Our Safety Team also leads comprehensive ongoing training programs across disciplines including confined space entry, trenching and excavations, fall protection, live conduit chipping, signal-person/rigging, traffic control, and more.
Our commitment to safety is built to meet the highest bar our clients set, and then raise it.
Our Good Catch Program gives every field employee a simple, frictionless way to flag potential hazards and nominate peers who demonstrate safe behavior. Each month, our safety team recognizes an employee who exemplifies the safety culture we’ve built together and shares their story with the entire company.

Core Values of the Safety Team
We are the Glue — Cultural Champions who inspire buy-in to Safety. We hold people, processes, and purpose together. When challenges arise, we are the presence that keeps teams connected and cohesive, and operations running safely. We are the conduit between the field and corporate offices that translates the realities of the field to leadership and brings clarity, resources, and support back to the front line.
We Build Relationships — We invest emotional capital in the people we serve. By earning trust through consistent presence, direct communication, genuine care, and follow-through on issues, we create the foundation that makes real safety possible.
We Enable Operational Excellence — We are servant leaders who take pride in making safe work possible without slowing work down. By seeking to understand the work and partnering closely with operations, we find practical, real-world SOLUTIONS that protect our people and drive business performance. We own our role in operational excellence and look inward to what WE can do to make a positive impact.
We Focus on What Matters — We are deliberate with our time and energy, directing our efforts toward activities that deliver real, measurable value to the worker and the business. We cut through white noise, stay proactive, and keep our focus on the Mission.
We Believe in Human & Organizational Performance — We recognize that error is a normal part of being human. Rather than blaming individuals, we seek to understand why failures occur and work to design and continuously improve systems, processes, and environments that make it easier to do the right thing. We believe that strong organizations are built on learning, fairness, and a deep respect for the people doing the work.
We are Students of the Profession — We are committed to learning and professional growth. We stay curious, pursue knowledge, and keep pace with evolving regulations, best practices, and industry trends. By investing in our own development, we show up as more credible, capable, and effective advocates for the people and organization we serve.
