United Civil partnered with JW Didado to perform all civil construction aspects in the development of a new 345kV electrical substation in Dover Plains, NY. The 10-acre project site featured unique challenges, in that it was previously an auto salvage yard adjacent to a large environmentally sensitive area, and located on a sloping bed of ledge.

United Civil was able to drill, blast, and process thousands of cubic yards of ledge – re-using the processed rock to shape the site to the required contours. Part of this project included our crews building a concrete retaining wall stretching hundreds of feet with locations over 30 feet high. In addition, UC installed Drilled Micropiles for several foundations on the Transmission ROW and inside the station, as well as all of the concrete foundation work for the substation equipment.

Other work included trenching for miles of conduit, cable trench preparation, drainage installation, roadway paving and other site finishes. UC also installed the landscaping element that included hundreds of trees – intended to blend the Electrical Substation in with the surrounding community.
