United Civil was selected by Kiewit to be their Underground Civil Contractor for Segment 1 & 2 of the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project. The entire CHPE Transmission Line project travels a total of 339 miles from the U.S.-Canadian border.

United Civil completed the first two segments, consisting of 18 miles of the 400kV HVDC underground ductbank system from Putnam Station, NY to Whitehall, NY. Our crews were responsible for the installation of 31 Pre-Cast Splice Vaults throughout the route, management of contaminated soils/water, and the removal of 55,000 LF of rock completed with the assistance of our drilling and blasting contractor. Safe performance in the roadway, while partnering with key local contractors and vendors to support our efforts, allowed our team to deliver a safe, quality project successfully reaching substantial completion a full 8 months ahead of schedule.

Site Safety, daily collaboration with NYSDOT and environmental compliance was especially important during the pre-planning and execution of the project. The CHPE Project, being an Article VII permitted project, required adhering to the strict permit conditions. CHPE has been nationally recognized as the largest transmission line build in the United States, 20 years in the making, CHPE, once complete, will yield 1,250 MW and provide power for more than one million New York businesses and residents.
