United Civil is the concrete subcontractor for this 95,000 SF new school building on a site adjacent to the existing school building in Mattapan, MA. The new school will accommodate almost 800 students, Grades 8-12. United Civil’s work on the project consisted of cast-in-place foundations and flatwork, as well as complex concrete step seating for an auditorium-style lecture hall.

In pouring concrete for the segmented lecture hall steps, we used one-sided vertical forms for 1’8’’ step risers, hanging from a singular main brace. When working with the foundation walls, we encountered complex tie layouts and varied top of wall elevation, often exceeding 20 ft. The foundation also included many brick shelves throughout.
