Cartier Jewelers, Newbury Street

United Civil was the civil subcontractor performing the sitework for the renovation of Cartier Jewelers on Newbury Street. This four-story masonry building was originally constructed in 1910, with wood pile foundations. In the construction of a new vault structure in the basement space, United Civil’s scope included the construction of supplemental helical piles, man-placed fll and the installation of a stormwater store/groundwater recharge system. Taking place in an old building within the busy Back Bay area, this project required special attention to site logistics and safety, to cause limited disruption to the surrounding Back Bay neighborhood.
