United Civil was the Civil Contractor for National Grid’s North Quincy 115kV XLPE Cable Replacement project. The project required the installation of 18,500 LF of a new 115kV dual circuit vault and ductbank system, as well as the removal of 16,500 LF of legacy SCFF (Self-Contained Fluid Filled) cable.

We were contracted by the cable manufacturer, Taihan, USA to install the 115kV ductbank system, HV Cable and fiber pulling and splicing and terminations for the 3-mile project. The route of the ductbank was primarily through city and state roadways with a portion along the active MBTA railroad and terminating at existing NGRID substations. UC was able to provide National Grid with an earlier than scheduled energization with the project reaching substantial completion 8 months prior to the scheduled project completion date.

As part of the project, UC crews installed 18 new pre-cast splicing vaults, energized substation modifications and final curb to curb restoration of the route.
